Vesa, Design Factory’s laboratory technician, is the man to go to whenever you’re at loss at how to manufacture something, like parts for your project. If he cannot get something done with the equipment at the Factory, chances are he knows how to do it, where to do it, and who to contact. Otaniemi in particular has a large number of laboratories with interesting tools and possibilities, and Vesa knows who to talk to.
Vesa has been working for Mechanical Engineering department since 1995, and guided various student projects and hundreds of students in practical aspects of mechanical engineering and manufacturing. He specializes in manufacturing, especially in all manual machining methods such as milling and turning. Thanks to his history at Outokumpu’s electrical R&D, he can also help out with power electronics and frequency controllers.
If you have something you’d like to see realized, make some drawings and talk to Vesa. He will be able to help you to design the part so that it’s possible (and as easy as possible) to manufacture. He can also help you with the tools, and even do the parts themselves.
