Iina-Karoliina Valila
Iina is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Interior Architecture at Aalto University School of Art and Design. She initially started her studies at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences, specializing in Furniture Design. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of Interior Architecture and Furniture Design (2008).
Architecture in the context of interior design and public spaces has always interested her and influenced her studying choices so far. Exhibition architecture, public space and light design are among the things she would like to work with in her future career. She likes to try different approaches when designing furniture and spaces, and respects how these two fields also support each other. A love for wood and steel, a devotion to order, a great interest in the thinking process and a slightly weird sense of humour are common points that tie all of her work together.
Besides studying, Iina has been working on various assignments, such as stage design for music and dance production, exhibition architecture and designing office spaces and private homes. She tries to avoid sticking to a specific way of designing – she likes to approach different assignments with different methods. Lately, her furniture has also started to take experimental forms.
Iina constantly strives to develop her skills and knowledge, and likes to explore different techniques and materials. Challenges motivate her, and she enjoys working in a multicultural environment. She joined the Aalto Design Factory team in May 2010 as a Murjottelija.
